2021 Picks: DC Fray Staff Looks Ahead

With theaters closed, production put on hold and sports slowed down, 2020 was a challenging year for many industries. But over the last year, the entertainment and sports industries have adapted to fit the changing conditions, ensuring that 2021 will have no lack of media to consume. Read on for some of the DC Fray staff’s most anticipated sporting events and television and film releases of the upcoming year.

2021 Masters
“I am looking forward to the 85th Masters as they will allow limited fans in attendance, and it has the distinction of being the last major played in 2020 and the first major played in 2021.” The 2021 Masters runs from April 8-11 and will be broadcast on CBS and ESPN.

“Outer Banks” Season 2
“I am excited for another season of “Outer Banks” because it is super easy to binge and feels like an escape.” Although a second season of “Outer Banks” has been confirmed, there is no set release date. Watch the first season on Netflix.

March Madness
“I am incredibly excited for 2021 for a plethora of reasons, but the sporting event I am most excited for is just around the corner. The NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament is going to be tipping off in a little over a month and I couldn’t be more excited.” March Madness kicks off on March 14 with Selection Sunday and runs through April 5. I spend way too much time online and remember when this happened in real time, and was thrilled to see it was not only optioned for a movie but was directed by Janicza Bravo, who is so ridiculously talented.” “Zola” will be released by A24 on June 30.

Washington Nationals’ 2021 Season
“I’m looking forward to the upcoming baseball season for the Nationals. After winning the World Series in 2019, it’s a bummer they were only able to play a 60-game season last year in front of no fans. They didn’t have a great season post World Series, so I’m hoping that with a full season ahead this year, it’ll be more exciting and feel more “normal” for all of us watching as we still celebrate that 2019 ending.” The Nationals start their season on April 1. I highly recommend it to everyone, as the themes permeate all aspects of life, and I have friends who are single, male and/or uninterested in becoming parents who love it just as much as I do.” Season 5 of “Workin’ Moms” is set to premiere on Netflix on February 16.
