Get Scared! Try These Haunted Houses

Despite the lack of cornfields and abandoned farms you don’t have to travel far in the DMV to find a good haunted house this October. This Halloween, you can be scared to death close to home. These haunted houses range from trips back in time in DC‘s history, fighting for your life against zombies and finding your way through a haunted trail. Each house offers new ways to get into the Halloween spirit. Here are some suggestions on how to get tricked in Maryland, DC and Virginia.
Maryland
Laurel’s House of Horror
935 Fairlawn Avenue Laurel, Md.; www.laurelhaunt.com
Open from September 25 to November 7.
Main attractions: An old movie theater that has been revamped into a Haunted House. R.A. Mihailoff, who played Leatherface in “Leatherface: The Texas Chainsaw Massacre III,” will meet guests Oct. 9-12.
Rating: Appropriate for children 13 and over.
Hours of operation: 7 p.m.-10 p.m. Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Sundays. 7 p.m. -11 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays.
Admission: $25 tickets. $35 skip the line pass.
Field of Screams Maryland

Open from September 18 to November 1.
Main attractions: Haunted Trail, Nightmares in 3D Haunted House, Hades Hayride and Paintball Apocalypse.
Rating: Appropriate for children 13 and older.
Hours of operation: Opens at 6:30 and closes from 9:30 p.m. to midnight depending on the day.
Admission: Single attractions are $18-$25. Combo packs are $48-$88. $10 skip line pass available.
Virginia
Shocktober

Open the month of October.
Main attraction: Held in the basement of Paxton Manor guests enter the home of a Leesburg family that was banished over a hundred years ago and now haunts the property.
Rating: Appropriate for children 12 and over.
Hours of operation: Guests enter at 7 p.m., 8 p.m., 9 p.m., and 10 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays. Guest enter at 7 p.m. and 8 p.m. on Sundays.
Admission: $30 per person, $50 V.I.P. package.
Washington, DC
Scream City Washington, D.C.
RFK Stadium, 2400 East Capitol Street SE, Washington, D.C.; www.screamcity.com
Open from October 2 to November 1.
Main attraction: Scream City Maryland has been brought to RFK with Exorcism Estate Haunted House and the Slaughter Factory
Rating: Appropriate for kids 13 and older.
Hours of operation: Every Friday and Saturday and most Thursdays and Sundays. Opens at 7 p.m. and closes at 10 or 11 p.m. depending on the day.
Admission: $30-$45 depending on the day. VIP/Demon Pack available for an additional $10.
The Curse of Frau Mueller
50 Florida Ave. NE, Washington D.C.; www.gravensteen.net
Now through November 1.
Main attraction: Guests are taken through the home of Frau Mueller, a German immigrant who killed several DC children in 1913 before disappearing.
Rating: Appropriate for kids 13 and older.
Hours of operation: 7-11 p.m.
Admission: Tickets are $30-$50.
DC Dead
2020 Shannon Place, SE, Washington, D.C.; www.dc-dead.com
October from 8 to November 1.
Main attraction: In groups of six, guests go up against zombies armed with ‘neurotoxin’ darts in a search to find the weapon that will end the zombie apocalypse.
Rating: Appropriate for kids 14 and up.
Hours of operation: First performance starts at 7 p.m. and last performance starts at 11 p.m.
Admission: $35, $40 on Halloween weekend.
