Welcome to On Tap’s annual Trivia Guide, offering you the best of all things trivia. This year, we noticed a trend: ongoing tournaments and bigger prizes but we also found that these trivia kingpins have something more up their sleeve.
District Trivia
In a conversation with Nick Groves of District Trivia and Austin Krablin and Brian Potter of Comcast SportsNet, new on their docket is a partnership. Comcast SportsNet Mid-Atlantic and District Trivia have partnered up to present their project, the CSN Trivia Challenge, a $5,000 grand prize bar trivia contest. Scheduled as a four-month contest beginning on Nov. 4 the competition will feature weekly games at 12 area locations all leading up to a championship tournament in March.
“This is the single largest tournament out there,” said Groves. Plus, “This contest allows us to complement the action on television with an exciting competition for the bars and their patrons to enjoy” said Krablin.
The cool thing about the CSN Trivia Challenge is it’s open to all participants. Players can join the contest at any point during the regular season or play in individual games. Games will be hosted at designated locations on a consistent weeknight and time, with prizes and standings points awarded weekly.
“We set it up this way because we wanted to create a level playing field,” remarks Grove.
Following the regular season, the leading teams from each location will compete to decide who earns positions in the championship tournament, which will be held March 11 at Penn Social. The winners of the championship tournament will be awarded $5000.

Trivia Kings
Also reigning strong are the Trivia Kings who have a few tricks up their sleeve as well. Already well established and capable of attracting large crowds the kings are currently looking for a new venue to replace their premiere location, Union Jacks in Ballston (closed).
Aside from scouting a new location they are staying keen on the big picture: The Net Trivia Experience – The bar, the specials and the people.
“Our goal is to have the best bar and the best experience in every neighborhood” a Trivia King representative told On Tap.”
Looking ahead, the realization for the Trivia Kings is that trivia has become more than a hobby and in order to stay competitive their vision has to remain focused.
“There are a lot of things we do that nobody else does” and zeroing in on those things (like packing venues) is where the kings are looking. When asked what players can expect in the coming months, Trivia King reps smiled playfully and said,
“We’re working on something big right now – to be continued…”
