About this event

The Smithsonian is the world’s largest museum and research complex, headquartered in the heart of Washington, DC, and “FUTURES” is our first major exploration of the future. It’s a massive part-exhibition, part-festival that takes over the entirety of the Arts + Industries Building (AIB), a historic landmark that opened in 1881 as the country’s first U.S. National Museum. “FUTURES” is dedicated to exploring many possible futures on the horizon, through art, technology, design, and innovation, and creating a sense of hope and empowerment.

In partnership with the NFL and NFLPA, “FUTURES Field Day” on Saturday, May 28 will be our big moment to celebrate and explore the future of sports – through inclusion, joy, movement and creating an equal playing field for all bodies, backgrounds, and ages to get involved or get started in sports. We’re taking over the National Mall for the entire day, as well as creating pop-up experiences in the exhibition itself.

Schedule:

10am – 5pm | Jump into our FUTURES Sports Camp to practice an array of athletic drills with experienced coaches, trainers, and professional athletes, then out our United Fray PLAY ZONE

11am – 1pm | Tune in for Fair Play: Women in Sports celebrating the careers of dynamic women in sports through interactive talks featuring:

Jaclyn Mahoney: Director of Strategic Planning, Sports Reference

Rhiannon Walker: Features reporter, The Athletic

Janaye “JayCee” Ruffin: Emcee, Motivational Speaker, Author

Meghan McPeak: Play-by-play Broadcaster, Washington Mystics, Capital City Gogo, TSN

Yulin Olliver: Sports Agent, Action Sports, Wasserman

Jacqueline Coleman: Washington Nationals SVP, Marketing, Broadcasting & Game Presentation

Jonna Valente: VP Comms, Washington Spirit

1:30pm – 3pm | Rehydrate and amp it up for our Halftime Show Pep Rally performance

8:30pm | Grab a blanket and cool down during our outdoor screening of The Longshots on the National Mall

Free, with RSVP required. Outdoor activities will take place on the National Mall. We encourage you to stay hydrated and wear sunscreen. Let’s play!

FUTURES Field Day is made possible by the National Football League and the National Football League Players Association.
