Halcyon Homecoming
Help raise critical funds to support Halcyon Fellows as they drive the world forward. Social entrepreneurship and the arts are the twin engines that fuel sustainable change – especially during times of crisis. Cinemetary
In addition to showcasing the best of cinema, cemetery screenings feature a pre-show DJ and an opportunity to picnic at a gorgeous Washington landmark. On October 2, watch the classic “West Side Story.” Before the film, Folger Library staff will talk about the play the movie is based on as well as fun facts about the play and Shakespeare’s life. Fortitude Gala 2020
Join Dance Place for an evening of free virtual dance performances and community connections to celebrate their 40th Anniversary. Dance Place will be presenting safe socially distanced performances, toasting their 40th year and dancing the night away while raising funds to support Dance Place now and in the future. 6:30 p.m. Donations encouraged. The Shakespeare Everywhere Virtual Gala streams LIVE this Saturday
Celebrate Shakespeare past, present, and future through performance and song. Featuring performances and appearances by F. Murray Abraham, Angela Bassett, Annette Bening, Dame Judi Dench, Maureen Dowd, Ralph Fiennes, Dame Helen Mirren, Joe Morton, Antonio Parker Quintet, Nova Y. Payton, Nancy Robinette, Kalen Robinson, Mary Michelle Schaefer, Liev Schreiber, Russell Thomas, Courtney B. Vance, and the cast of “The Amen Corner,” with more notable artists updated daily. The virtual gala is co-directed by STC’s Director of Equity and Enrichment LeeAnet Noble and Associate Artistic Director Alan Paul. Tail Talk Table with Decoding Dog Talk
Learn the basics of some common dog body language cues. This project is intended to empower people in Washington, DC to be more educated neighbors and guardians, and to play a more active role in increasing the quality of life for the dogs who bring joy to so many in our community.There are lots of ways to “hear” what dogs are trying to tell us (and each other), even though they don’t use spoken language. Dogs “talk” using a variety of expressions, postures and non-verbal vocalizations — some of which aren’t all that different from the body language, ticks and facial cues that are part of humans’ repertoire of unspoken communication. 11:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. Free with RSVP.
