Five Frozen Drink Spots to Keep You Calm, Cool and Boozy

August 2, 2019 @ 12:00am | Briana Florez

Many of us are trying to stay cool during this mid-summer heatwave.

It was even reported by USA Today that DC felt as hot as Death Valley a few days ago. It’s important to stay cool and to stay hydrated in the scorching DC heat.

Besides drinking a lot of water (which is very important), you can also cool off the boozy way with a frozen libation from some of our favorite spots in town.

Archipelago – 1201 U St NW

Haven’t been able to take that tropical vacation yet? We know a place that will make you think you’ve traveled somewhere warm and breezy that serves up the perfect pina colada. Made with the classic ingredients, white rum, coconut, and pineapple, this tiki bar’s cool drinks will make you feel like you are in paradise.

#FrayLifeTip: The pina colada is the only frozen drink on this bar’s menu, but don’t be afraid to try their other fun, tiki style drinks!

Suburbia Union Market – 1309 5th St NE

Union Market is known for its uniqueness of food and drink. Suburbia serves delicious frozen drinks, cocktails, wines, and old fashioned beers out of a vintage 1967 airstream. Try a frozen blackberry margarita, pina colada, Cuba libre, or grappling grape drink. If you want to cool off from the summer heat without the alcohol, you can try their frozen coke or their icy flavored sno balls.

Provision No. 14 – 2100 14th St NW

Frozen slushies more your vibe? Provision No. 14 whips up tasty slushies for $11. Try the mango habanero margarita slushy for a kick, or the Moscow mule slushy for a twist on the classic drink.

#FrayLifeTip: Both slushies are $8 all day on Tuesday!

Coconut Club – 540 Penn St NE

Everything about this place embodies a vacation on an island somewhere. From the pastel beach colors throughout the bar to the tropical small plates, this is the place in DC to getaway!

“Frose” has been a summer craze for a while now, but it’s never too late to join in. Coconut Club’s “brrrr-rose” drink is the ultimate frozen concoction with rose, strawberry, blue, gin, and Campari blended into one.

#FrayLifeTip: For all you  beer lovers out there, try the “death by dairy” drink, a porter milkshake made with beer, rum, and vanilla ice cream!

Tortuga Carribean Bar & Grille – 514 8th St SE

Another tropical oasis awaits you on the rooftop of Tortuga. You have nine different frozen drinks to choose from like the key lime colada, or bushwacker. Enjoy Carribean happy hour Monday-Friday from 3-7 p.m. with $5 frozen drinks.

#FrayLifeTip: Pair your frozen drink with flavorful Carribean dishes like Carribean baby back ribs with a mango rum bbq sauce, or Tortuga jerk chicken.
