Transformer launches the first public component of E19: Artistic Interventions, the 19th year of their Exercises for Emerging Artists program – an annual peer critique and mentorship program for DC-based emerging artists

The first exhibition in this series “The Algorithm Will See You Now” by artist Chris Combs, opens July 9 from 4 p.m. – 6 p.m.

Combs uses interactive electronics to ask pressing questions about algorithmic injustice and surveillance capitalism. Machine learning or “artificial intelligence (AI)” tools are quickly arising and are trained from massive datasets of human decisions. The “algorithms” that these AI machines create are empowered to make decisions themselves, but their trainings are rarely known to the public. Combs’ exhibition will explore and unpack what the implications are, and what we can do.
