Rina Rapuano is a Washington, D.C.-based freelance writer who has contributed to such publications as The Washington Post, Food Network, Travel Channel, NPR and Livestrong.com. She created Zagat’s D.C. editorial content for more than four years as the site's city editor, and before that served as a food and wine editor at Washingtonian magazine. She can usually be found popping up in random places around the globe or in the kitchen sneaking a cookie, although these days there are far more cookies than travel adventures. She lives in Columbia Heights with her husband, two kids, a sweet dog and a scary cat. Visit her website at rinarapuano.com. Photo by Farrah Skeiky.
