“Motherload”
About this event
Winner of Best Comedy at this year’s Capital Fringe Festival, “Motherload” is thrilled to return for two special encore performances at Studio Theatre (1501 14th St NW, Washington, DC 20005) as a part of Washington Improv Theater’s year-long residency.
“Motherload” is an autobiographical dark comedy about the wounds that accompany complicated mother-daughter relationships and the ways in which deep friendships–in all their crass glory–can heal and uplift. Together, Jenna and Justine work through their shared baggage – around dating, class, and most of all, both the lingering resentment and profound love that they have for their mothers–wild, unruly, and human in their flaws. As Nicole Hertvik remarked in DC Theater Arts, “It is the nuanced blend of comedy and vulnerability that gives “Motherload” its poignancy…Hall and Hipsky have created something intensely personal and yet very relatable in “Motherload.” The result is a moving theater experience that may be as cathartic for viewers as it is for the writers.”
